F&M women fall in OT

An Emma Lisle 3-pointer as time expired in regulation sent Franklin & Marshall into overtime on Saturday, but the Diplomats came up short against Centennial Conference opponent Muhlenberg, 71-64.

Down 58-55 after Muhlenberg (9-6 CC, 12-8 overall) hit a pair of free throws, the Diplomats (4-12, 7-14) pushed the ball upcourt with 6 seconds to play. Alexa Barbush found Lisle behind the arc, and the junior forward landed the first 3-pointer of her career to send the game into overtime.

F&M struck first in the extra period on a Kara Bacile layup. But from there, the Mules went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead 65-60 with 2:26 remaining.

Kristina McCarthy dropped a pair of free throws with 1:38 to go to bring F&M within one at 65-64, but Muhlenberg held the Diplomats scoreless the rest of the way.

Barbush led the Diplomats in scoring with 20 on the day. Lisle finished with 13 points while Elizabeth Snyder had 11. McCarthy tied a career high with 18 rebounds.

The Mules' offense was paced by Alita Zabrecky, who scored 20. Kate Clawson finished with 17, followed by Nicole Pepe with 14.

Alvernia 60, Elizabethtown 58: On the road at Alvernia, the Blue Jays fell to the Crusaders in a game that featured 15 lead changes, including 11 in the second half.

The Blue Jays (8-6 Commonwealth Conference, 11-9 overall) used a Katy Fogel 3-pointer -- with an assist by Nadine Yunginger -- to break a 9-9 deadlock with 11:30 remaining in the first half. E-town pushed its lead to as many as 11 in the opening period before the Crusaders (5-9, 8-13) made a run of their own, outscoring the Jays 15-7 to go into halftime trailing 27-24.

In the second half, neither team led by more than six points as each team traded the lead with the other. Taylor Kreider converted a layup with 1:14 to go, giving E-town what would be its final lead of the game, 58-57. The Crusaders split a pair of free throws twice to jump back in front, 59-58.

Rachel Forjan had a chance to regain the lead for the Jays with three seconds left, but her jumper was no good as Alvernia's Kelsey Wolf came up with the rebound. Wolf would hit one of two at the line, but there was too little time left for Elizabethtown.

Kendra Beittel finished the game as E-town's high scorer with 16 points, and Kreider notched a double-double, her 14th of the season, with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Alwine, who had six points in the first half, only finished with eight points and four rebounds. Forjan came off the bench to contribute 14 points.

Lancaster Bible 59, SUNY Cobleskill 54: Lancaster Bible's Lauren Heliger and Brooklyn Wilson each had 16 points as the Chargers stayed atop the North Eastern Athletic Conference South Division satndings.

Freshman Aubrey Folger had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers (12-2 NEAC, 16-4 overall) as well, while Sarah Heilenman added 10 points and five boards.

SUNY Cobleskill's Heidi Anderson led all scorers with 20 points, while Alexis Hauser added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Fighting Tigers (5-8, 6-13).

After LBC led 30-25 at the half, the Fighting Tigers opened the second half on a 10-1 run to take a 36-31 lead with 16:29 to play. The Chargers responded with a scoring run of their own as they outscored Cobleskill, 15-4 over the next 8:56. The teams traded buckets the rest of the way before Hauser's layup with 30 seconds to play cut the Fighting Tigers' deficit to just two at 56-54. Heilenman was fouled and connected on both free throws and Cobleskill came up empty on its next possession to ice the game for the Chargers.

Alvernia 78, Elizabethtown 57: Terrence Bridgers scored a career-high 30 points Saturday, helping Alvernia remain in a tie atop the Commonwealth Conference with the win.

Bridgers was 11 of 13 from the floor Saturday, including four three-pointers. He also brought in eight rebounds for Alvernia (11-3 CC, 16-4 overall).

Inconsistent scoring hurt E-town (7-14, 4-10 CC). Joe Schwalm had a solid afternoon, scoring a team-best 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting, but it was not nearly enough to keep pace with the Crusaders. Ben Cable had 12, with Will Schlosser and Joe Bodnar scoring seven apiece.

Kahlil Bennett put in 17 points and Brian Parker 11 for Alvernia, which won its fourth straight game in the series and improved to 9-1 in its last 10 games this season.

Lancaster Bible 81, SUNY Cobleskill 65: Lancaster Bible snapped a five-game losing streak as freshman CJ Dunston led all scorers with 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting.

Senior Dan Karl and sophomore Jon Bird each had 16 points for the Chargers (3-9 NEAC, 3-18 overall).

Alexis Nunez led the Fighting Tigers (3-8, 5-16) with 16 points and five assists, while Travis Woods added 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Chargers led 38-29 at halftime and never trailed in the second half as they opened a 17-point lead, 50-33, just 5:40 into the second half.

Montgomery County CC 74, Thaddeus Stevens 55: Jah'lil Williams scored 24 points to pace Montgomery County Community College (9-3 EPAC, 15-9 overall) past Thaddeus Stevens College.

The Bulldogs (7-5, 8-11) were led by Kenny Randall's 13 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Randall is the top scorer in Division III's Region 19. Malcom Mathies and Khalil Brewer each had 10 for the Bulldogs. n
