Ruth A. (Mathias) Sterner

Saturday, January 26, 2013 at her home. She was the wife of the late Paul Sterner, Jr.A celebration of life tribute service was held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with her pastor, The Rev. Judith A. McKee officiating. Burial was in Mt. Rose Cemetery.Born January 19, 1911 in York, a daughter of the late David J. and Jennie (Shearer) Mathias, she had worked as a sales clerk at the former Rogers Clothing Store in York City and later retired from Senft Brothers Potato Chips in 1971. Mrs. Sterner was a lifelong member of Union Evangelical Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, active with the Union Lutheran Holiday Craft Show, and always helped in the Church kitchen. She also enjoyed reading, playing solitaire, and playing the piano. Mrs. Sterner was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. In their early years, Mr. & Mrs. Sterner were active in the York CB Club.Mrs. Sterner is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline F. Ort of Lancaster and Phyllis E. Sterner of York; three grandchildren, Sharon and husband Michael Schaeffer, David and wife Tamara Ort, and Susan and husband John Dougherty; four great grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Andrew DeBlase, Christopher Schaeffer, Steven Head, and Ryan Ort; a great great granddaughter, Isabella DeBlase; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Ort, and a sister, Adella Gotwalt.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Lutheran Church, 408 W.
