Samuel Messina, 88, of Lancaster, died Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late George and Theresa Madonna Messina. Sam?s wife of 47 years Anna L. Dukeman Messina died in 2000.He served in the US Army during World War II and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Sam was wounded twice during combat in Germany and received the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster. He worked as an electrician for Armstrong for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Anne?s Catholic Church. An avid hunter and fisherman, he made his own lures called ?Sam?s Game Fish Lures?.Sam is survived by his son George Messina of Georgia, step-son Louis Muhlberg, husband of Rose of Mount Joy, step-daughter Patricia Reed of Lancaster, 8 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and his sister Marie Lichty of Lancaster. His sisters Mary Sinopoli and Betty Krushinski preceded Sam in death.A Graveside Service with Military Honors will take place 10 AM Friday, February 8, 2013, at St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA, with the Rev. Norman C. Hohenwarter as Celebrant. Please omit flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, Greater PA Chapter, 3544 N.
