A Manheim Township police officer and another person were injured in a three-vehicle crash in the township Thursday, state police reported.

October A. Heiser, 33, of Akron, was driving west on Roseville Road shortly before 11:30 a.m. when she rear-ended a township police cruiser that was stopped at a red light at Lititz Pike.

Township police Officer Samuel Echternach, 33, of Strasburg, was the driver of the police car, state police said.

Heiser's SUV pushed the police car into the intersection, where its front end was then struck by a sport utility vehicle being driven north on Lititz Pike by Michael Clair, 37, of Holtwood, police said.

That second impact spun the cruiser around and it stopped in the intersection.

Heiser's SUV struck a tree in the northwest corner of the intersection, and Clair's SUV came to a stop just north of the intersection, police said.

Echternach and Heiser's passenger, Alicia M. Rohrer, 22, of Leola, suffered minor injuries and were transported by Manheim Township Ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital.

Heiser and Clair were not injured, police said.

Heiser was charged with following too closely.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.n
