AUTHOR KICKS OFF LANCASTER ROOTS 2013 BOOK DISCUSSIONS FOR ALL DOGSTAR ANNIVERSARY, STORYTIMES ANNOUNCED F&M'S WRITERS HOUSE HOSTS FACULTY GUESTS ANOTHER STOP FOR BEARS
Mennonite missionary and author Donald R. Jacobs will present "Stories of Boyhood, Missions in Africa and Sizing Up Life" at 7 p.m. Monday at Blossom Hill Mennonite Church, 333 Delp Road.
Jacobs and wife Anna Ruth were missionaries in Tanzania and Kenya from 1954 to 1973. He wrote "What a Life! A Memoir" and "As the Wind Blows," an account of his ancestors.
His talk marks the beginning of Lancaster Roots 2013, a year-long schedule of storytelling, concerts, classes, field trips, exhibits and sales organized by Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and the 1719 Hans Herr House.

Current and former Franklin & Marshall College faculty members will be featured at the Philadelphia Alumni Writers House on campus.
lJerome Hodos, professor of sociology and author of "Second Cities: Globalization and Local Politics in Manchester, England, and Philadelphia," will talk at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
His book, which examines the economics, culture, migration patterns and other qualities in the two cities' urban centers, recently won the Urban History Association's Kenneth Jackson Best Book Award.
lFormer professor Stephanie Reents, whose short-story collection, "The Kissing List," was published last year, will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Her fiction, which has been published in numerous journals, has been included in the O. Henry Prize Stories and noted in Best American Short Stories.
Stan and Jan Berenstain's storybook characters Brother Bear and Sister Bear will appear in costume at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 at Eastern Lancaster County Library, New Holland.n
