Aldwyth Evelyn "Lyn" Jones Cunningha
Aldwyth Evelyn "Lyn" Jones Cunningham, of Simsbury, CT and South Orleans, MA, wife of F. Richard Cunningham, DDS passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 after a long, hard fought battle with lung cancer. Lyn was born on April 9, 1942 in Lancaster, PA, the daughter of the late Carroll and Regina (Mumma) Jones. She graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1960 and from the Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA as a registered nurse in 1963. Having resided in Simsbury since 1968, she enjoyed a long career in nursing including many years at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Lyn was also an international flight attendant with Trans World Airlines from 1964 to 1966. She and her husband, Dick, married in April, 1966 and moved to the Farmington Valley in 1967 when Dr. Cunningham opened his orthodontic practice in Farmington, CT. As a sixteen-year member of the Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association she was proud to have been the first member to deliver a baby in the winter of 1981. Lyn enjoyed and participated in many sports including hiking and golf and she loved traveling and camping in her beloved motor home. Among her best memories were her cross-country camping trip with her daughter, visiting ten national parks in 1993 and her trip to Alaska with her sister in 2002. She was active until recently in the Farmington Country Club eighteen hole golfers. She also enjoyed quilting, making many quilts for family members that will be treasured for years to come. In addition to her husband, Lyn is survived by her daughter, Erin, and her husband, Tom Perlitz of New Canaan, CT; her son, Richard, and his wife, Leslie of Louisville, Kentucky; and her son, Brendan, and his wife, Linda of Celebration, Florida. She very reluctantly leaves her much beloved grandchildren: Ellie, Katie and Sarah Perlitz; Sofie, Lauren and Matthew Cunningham; and Benjamin and Colin Cunningham. She is also survived by her sister, Regina J. Motter, and her husband, Larry Motter, of Ocean City, MD; her nephews, David Motter of Burke, VA and Mark Motter of Columbia, PA, and cousin, Ronald D. Jones of Lakeville, CT. The family would like to extend their thanks and sincere appreciation to Dr. Joerg Rathman, nurses Barbara, Ann and Loretta at the St. Francis Hospital Cancer Center; Dr. Naiyer Rizvi and APRN Deanna at Memorial Sloan Kettering; and Dr. Lecia Van Dam Sequist, APRN?s Michelle and Kelli, and program coordinator, Michael at Massachusetts General Hospital. Our thanks also to Mary Hebb of St. Francis Hospice and the staff at McLean Health Center for their very comforting care during her last few weeks. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, in Simsbury, CT on Friday, February 1st from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 2nd, 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road in West Simsbury, CT.
