John F. "Skip" Wise, Sr.

John F. "Skip" Wise, Sr., 96, loving husband for over 20 years of Lois Chase Wise (surviving) of Quarryville, entered into rest on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was a son of the late John A. Jr., and Bernice E. (Leary) Wise. Skip graduated from the Lancaster Boys High School. He then worked for C. Wise and Bros. Brick Manufacturing. Skip went on to work for the Hamilton Watch Co. for 47 years. He was an active 76-year member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster. He also belonged to St. Paul?s Church in Quarryville where he served in various capacities over the last 20 years. Skip was a gifted athlete and avid softball player. In 2007 he was inducted into the Lancaster County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame, which honored outstanding players from 1930 to 1980. He was also a talented musician, playing several instruments, but most notably the violin, performing solos at St. Paul?s well into his nineties. In addition to his wife, Skip is survived by 3 children: D. Diane, wife of W. Thomas Huber, Jr. of Lancaster; John F. Jr., husband of Arlene (Gossert) Wise of Willow Street; David M., husband of Susan (Slike) Wise of Landisville; 2 step-daughters: Avis (Aument), wife of R. Mitchell Huber of Quarryville and Jean Aument wife of Edward Iovino of Willow Street. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, who fondly knew him as "Pap;" 3 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; and 3 step great-grandchildren. Skip was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth A. Wise. Memorial Services celebrating Skip?s life will take place at St. Paul?s Church, 1 West Fourth St., Quarryville, PA 17566 on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Rineer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place in the Union Cemetery, Kirkwood.
