Philip E. Nielsen, 50, of Willow Street, died at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital on Thursday, January 24, 2013. He was the husband of Kimberly (Zimmerman) Nielsen for 32 years. Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Phil was the son of the late Marvin E. and Donna J. (Price) Nielsen. In addition to Kim, he is survived by twin daughters, Courtney D. Nielsen and Ashley R. married to Mark Bowermaster and grandson, Cooper, of Baltimore, Maryland, and a son, Matthew E. Nielsen of State College; two brothers, Dr. Marvin E. married to Catherine Nielsen of Easton, Maryland and Sterling P. married to Irene Nielsen of Palmer, Alaska; and a sister, Suzanna married to Scott Krutch of Cary, North Carolina.Phil was graduated from Richland High School, Johns-town, the New School, New York and Eastern University.He served in the US Navy from 1981 to 1987, where he was trained at Nuclear Power School. He served on the USS M.G. Vallejo.Phil worked for Exelon Corporation where he was an NRC Exams Development Coordinator, Mid-Atlantic Regional Operating Group.Phil was an active member of Lampeter Church of the Brethren since 1988, where he served as Chairman of the Church Board and the Deacons and a Sunday School teacher. He was coordinator of Community Ministries and coordinator of the recent Church building project. As worship team leader, Phil also played guitar and sang. He and Kim coordinated a community church volley ball league.Phil was a wonderful husband, dedicated father and doting Pop-pop. He loved spending time with his family and friends, camping and playing games. Extremely hospitable, he loved to cook. His wonderful sense of humor and love of others will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Road, Lancaster, PA, with Pastor John Hostetter officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 3:00 until 5:00 PM in the church and again following the memorial service. Please omit flowers.
