ASSAULT DUI HARASSMENT LIQUOR VIOLATION TRAFFIC ACCIDENT WEATHER-RELATED CRASHES

SALISBURY TWP.: Reta Stoltzfus, 58, of Gap, was charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, while DUI, after a Nov. 17 accident at Route 30 and Valley View Drive. Police said Stoltzfus was involved in a three-vehicle crash, in which a 63-year-old Gap woman suffered major injuries. Stoltzfus also was charged with DUI, DUI with the highest rate of alcohol, using the wrong lane and reckless driving.

PEQUEA TWP.: Colleen Jayne Casey, 27, of Lititz, was charged with DUI, careless driving and driving under suspension after she crashed a vehicle into a guide rail in the 2000 block of New Danville Pike Jan. 16. Her blood alcohol content was .225 percent, nearly three times the legal limit, police said.

WEST COCALICO TWP.: Robert Michael Weitzel, 58, of the 100 block of South Sandy Hill Road, Denver, has been charged in a Jan. 10 accident in the 200 block of North King Street, East Cocalico Township police said. Weitzel's vehicle struck a street sign and culvert, rolled onto its side and slid into a concrete wall. Firefighters extricated Weitzel from his vehicle. He suffered head and facial injuries and was flown to Reading Hospital. Weitzel had a blood alcohol content of .239 percent, nearly three times the legal limit, and Xanax was also detected, police said. He is in Lancaster County Prison on a probation/parole violation.

EPHRATA: Police said they are citing Christopher Kiely, 35, of Leola, in a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of East Fulton Street on Wednesday.

PROVIDENCE TWP.: Frederick Merklinger III, 29, of New Providence, allegedly banged on the front door of a home in the 2300 block of Beaver Valley Pike Tuesday morning and yelled for a woman to come outside to talk. State police earlier that day told him not to return to the home. He was charged with defiant trespass and harassment.

LANCASTER: Manuel Iguina, 38, of the 200 block of East Lemon Street, was charged after police accused him of shoving a person in the block on Monday, damaging a wall.

LITITZ: Police charged Jeffrey S. Miller, 50, of Willow Street, Sunday after they discovered him sitting in his vehicle, which was parked alongside the road in a no-parking area, with two open containers of alcohol. Police said his blood-alcohol level was under the legal limit.

WEST LAMPETER TWP.: Three people were injured in a head-on crash at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, after a driver turned directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle, police said. Charles Alexander Jr., 82, of Oxford, was heading west on Penn Grant Road when he attempted to make a left turn onto South View Road. He struck a car driven by April Herr, age unknown, of Willow Street. Herr, Alexander and a passenger in Alexander's vehicle were taken to the hospital. Both vehicles were demolished.

EARL TWP.: A vehicle driven by Elizabeth Larkin, 80, of Kinzers, pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by Daniel Glick Jr., 34, of Gordonville, Friday, at New Holland and Summitville roads. Larkin suffered minor injuries, police said.

EARL TWP.: Duane Kline, 42, of Quarryville, lost control of his vehicle on snowy roads, Friday, and struck a vehicle driven by Luke Myers, 35, of Ephrata, at Hollander and Peters roads.

EARL TOWNSHIP: Beverly Smith, 64, of New Holland, was at a stop sign at Huyard Road, heading east, when she pulled into the intersection with Railroad Avenue and collided with a southbound vehicle operated by Edith Martin, 54, of New Holland, about 11:50 a.m. Friday, police said. Smith was cited for a stop sign violation.

NEW HOLLAND: George R. Hawthorne, 60, Leola, escaped injury in a crash at 7:04 p.m. Friday at 1000 W. Main Street, police said. Officers responded to the report of a vehicle that struck a utility pole.

State police said there were 11 nonreportable crashes Friday in Paradise, Strasburg, Leacock, Elizabeth and East Drumore townships and two such crashes each in Providence and Salisbury townships. The Providence Township accident involved an Eschbach school bus carrying 20 children.

Eleven reportable crashes happened, including three with injuries in Salisbury Township and one each with injuries in Strasburg and Brecknock townships.

Reportable non-injury crashes took place in Salisbury, Leacock, Bart and Strasburg townships.

The Brecknock accident resulted from a male having an apparent heart attack. Police said the victim was transported to Ephrata Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
