Gerald R. Miller, 77, of Mount Joy passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 18, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Patricia Schroll Miller with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He will be deeply missed by his children, Cindy (Curt) Olweiler of Quentin and Kevin G. (Amy Erb) Miller of Columbia. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Jeremy (Candace Grimme) Engle of Manheim, Tanya (Clint) Bomberger of Columbia and Wyatt and Luke Miller, his great grandchild, Danielle Bomberger and his step-great grandchildren, Bryson and Clayton Bomberger. His grandson, Jeremy, recently surprised Jerry with the wonderful news that a second great grandchild will arrive later this year. Jerry and his immediate family enjoyed a party in his honor last weekend to celebrate his 77th birthday which was on Father?s Day, June 16.Jerry attended the former Mount Joy High School and later began a career in the construction industry. Well known for his home building talents in western Lancaster County, Jerry built many homes as an independent contractor and later expanded his business under the partnership of M&E Associates. In 1986 he passed his profession and experience to his son, Kevin with whom he worked under the title of KG Construction until his retirement. A lifelong resident of Mount Joy, Jerry was a 50+ year member of St. Mark?s United Methodist Church and served as a charter member of the Mount Joy Athletic Association and helped to build Kunkle Field in 1969. Jerry had a special passion for antiques and opened Stone Barn Antiques in Mount Joy in 1986. He enjoyed traveling to antique shows and was a familiar face at many antique auctions. Most importantly, throughout his life, Jerry was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who found special joy in attending his grandsons? sporting events. His presence will be missed in the athletic stands; however, his legacy will be remembered by many as a friend and proud supporter of his family and community.In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister Delores Yurkovic of Elizabethtown and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John R. and Gladys Rote Miller and a brother John.A Memorial Service honoring Jerry?s life will be held at the Sheetz Funeral Home, Inc., 16 East Main Street, Mount Joy on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 4 PM. PLEASE NOTE: There will be no visitation or viewing prior to the service. The Miller Family will receive friends immediately following the service.
