What next on gun control?
TO THE EDITORS:
We all remember Barack Obama's impassioned response to the Newtown shooting tragedy. He said we must prevent another similar tragedy. Then he embarked on a solution via added controls on the sale of certain weapons. That approach has been pretty well frustrated by the Senate of our country.
Well, what now? Why not return to the problem that still needs a solution. We need to prevent armed people from getting access to helpless students in our schools. Direct solutions can be developed. We own the schools. We staff them. Surely the relatively new use of security cameras can be involved. Couldn't we put as much thought and discussion into this problem as we did for gun control?
This is a test of President Obama's character. His first approach to school safety is not going to happen. Will he stay the course to adopt an approach that will work? Or, was he just talking to hear himself talk in the first place?
