Lititz looking for zombies
Lititz looking for zombies STAFF REPORT
Lititz has come up with a truly frightening way to raise funds for the Lititz Springs Park.
On Oct. 19, the town will host a Zombie Run, a 5K event that will force runners to navigate through a series of obstacles while being pursued by an undead horde.
Runners will wear flags around their belts, which the pursuing zombies will attempt to remove. The goal is to reach the "safe zone" in Lititz Square with all their flags intact.
The run will begin at the Warwick Township municipal building.
Promotion and registration for the event, called Dawn of the Lititz Dead, will kick off Sunday when organizers will shoot a zombie video on East Main Street, prior to the start of the Rock Lititz Tour bike race.
Organizers say they have 35 volunteer zombies for the video, but they're hoping to get at least 50 by the time filming begins.
Main Street will be blocked off at 6 a.m. for the shoot. Those interested in volunteering to become zombies should visit the event's Facebook page.
Once completed, the video will be added to the event's website (www.dawnofthelititzdead.com).
Organizers hope to attract at least 300 runners for the October race. Those interested in running in the event -- or in joining the horde of pursuing zombies -- can register on the event's website. The entry fee for runners is $45. The entry fee for zombie participants is $20.
All proceeds from the run will benefit the Lititz Springs Park, according to the event's website.
Dawn of the Lititz Dead is organized by Rock Lititz, Tait Towers, Clair Global and Atomic Design.
