Penn State freshman JD Dornes (Manheim Township) had a breakout performance at the 37th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate last weekend. Playing the Blue Course as an individual, Dornes maintained his first-place ranking from day one and shot a 74 in the final round to total a 3-over 216.
Xavier's Tanapol Vattanapisit matched Dornes' three-round total, forcing a tiebreaker. Vattanapisit came away with the playoff victory. Penn State tied for third in the team standings.
Track and Field
Kutztown senior Kori Meshaw (Hempfield) posted the fastest PSAC time in the 400 meter hurdles last week to become the PSAC Track Athlete of the Week. At the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University, Meshaw won the 400 hurdles in 51.99 seconds, which is his best time this season and an NCAA provisional mark.
