Dave Keens made his first presentation to the East Lampeter Township board of supervisors March 19 as newly elected chief of Lafayette Fire Company.
Keens, who has been a member of the fire company for 10 years, gave an overview of the 2012 fire company report.
The fire company responds to calls in East Lampeter and portions of West Lampeter and Lancaster townships.
According to the report, Lafayette responded to 480 calls last year. Of those, 53 were building fires, 127 were rescue/emergency calls, 44 were hazardous conditions and 37 were service calls. In addition, 109 false alarms were reported.
Keens reported that there were 335 calls in East Lampeter, 72 in Lancaster Township and 17 in West Lampeter. The fire company assisted other departments 56 times last year.
Keens succeeds Ron Nolt, who was fire chief for 13 years.
A native of Manheim Township, Keens said he joined the fire service there when he was 13 years old and was a member for 15 years. In 1996, he moved to West Lampeter Township.
Before being elected chief, Keens was assistant chief for three years.
