Spartan Foundation formed to support Elanco schools
Eastern Lancaster County School District recently announced the formation of its new educational foundation -- Spartan Foundation for Education.
Elanco joins school districts in the county, state and nation who have established foundations to fund significant causes rather than rely solely on tax dollars.
Because of state and federal educational budget cuts, the Spartan Foundation seeks to provide the financial resources to support innovative and creative projects that enhance and enrich the educational experiences of students and faculty beyond what the curriculum and other initiatives offer.
The foundation's mission statement is to fund opportunities for students to gain competence in their global future.
Established as a 50l(c)3 nonprofit organization, the foundation is administered by a board of directors composed of business leaders and school district representatives.
The board is committed to finding the resources to overcome the shortcomings of state and federally assessed learning by adding educational opportunities to teach 21st century skills for students to succeed.
New Holland Agriculture, a division of CNH America LLC, was one of the first businesses to give the foundation a significant donation. The company donated $5,000, which will enable the foundation to award its first grant in May.
"We are proud to support the Spartan Foundation that recognizes the importance of providing students with the additional educational resources necessary to prepare them for doing business in the global society," said Abe Hughes II, New Holland Agriculture vice president.
Businesses and individuals interested in giving a tax-deductible gift to the Spartan Foundation can make checks payable to: Spartan Foundation for Education and mail to them to Spartan Foundation for Education, 669 E. Main St., New Holland, PA 17557.
The foundation's board consists of James Costello, president; LouAnn Miller, vice-president; Charles Lehman, treasurer; and members Lauren Eby, Wendy Horst, Loren Martin, John Sheaffer, George Solyak, John Styer and Steve Weaver. Elanco ex-officio representatives are Robert Hollister, Keith Ramsey, Rodney Jones and Carole Deck.
