For governor and wife, a relief fund
TO THE EDITORS:
If the article in the paper is true that Gov. Tom Corbett and his wife are walking around Harrisburg with their palms outstretched for any handout they can score, you have to feel sorry for them that they find themselves in such dire straits or lack any pride or self-respect.
I suggest we set up the Corbett Relief Fund. In the name of humanity, if everyone would mail $1 to the governor's mansion to help the Corbetts get through this rough spot so they don't have to miss their next meal or gala event or football game.
A related topic that also shines the light on the Harrisburg mindset is the issue of the funding of the public pension systems.
Here is a fiscal problem that was created by state and local governments mismanaging and/or not properly funding the pension plans, and now they want the greedy and villainous public employees to take the financial hit.
Of course the same legislators voted themselves generous raises and pensions benefits.
On second thought maybe this is a good concept. I think I will call my mortgage lender and tell them I have been financially irresponsible and would they reduce my payment by 20 percent.
I'm sure they would not mind.
