Eagle Scout honor for L-S senior
As a local Boy Scout, he took on a project to design and then construct an outdoor classroom for his high school, Lampeter-Strasburg.
And for his work, 18-year-old Garret Kilmer has earned the highest award in scouting, reaching the rank of Eagle Scout.
The son of David and Sylvia Kilmer, he's a senior at L-S, where he has earned varsity letters as part of the tennis team.
Kilmer has been accepted at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., where he plans to major in marine biology.
He's a member of Boy Scout Troop 393, which meets at Ascension Lutheran Church in Willow Street, where Kilmer received his Eagle.
In his scouting career, he has held the posts of patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader, and has earned 21 merit badges.
He also was elected to the Order of the Arrow in 2009 and, among other honors, took part in the scouts' National Jamboree in Virginia in 2010 and completed the scouts' national youth leader training course.
