Police: Mom (and helpers) fight off a robber
In Central Market BY RYAN ROBINSON, Staff Writer
A robber targeted the wrong shopper inside Central Market in Lancaster city on Saturday, police said.
David Andrew Brown Jr., 28, grabbed a wallet from a woman's hand and tried to run away shortly before 10:30 a.m., city police said in a criminal complaint.
The 35-year-old Manheim woman -- with her infant child strapped in a carrier on her chest -- grabbed Brown and struggled with him.
Bystanders then helped the woman, holding Brown until officers arrived and took him into custody, police said.
He had a hypodermic needle in his pants pocket and admitted he has a drug problem, police said.
Brown's struggle with the woman endangered her infant, police said. They charged him with robbery, recklessly endangering another person and possession of drug paraphernalia. A probation/parole detainer also was issued for Brown.
He was committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.
