Suspects jailed in 3-county rob spree BY RYAN ROBINSON, Staff Writer
Police have arrested two people in connection with a series of robberies in Lancaster, Dauphin and Lebanon counties.
Derry Township police arrested Gage Washington, 21, of Hummelstown, and Erin Johnson, 20, of Palmyra, shortly after they tried to rob a cosmetics store along Route 22 in Lower Paxton Township in Dauphin County on Tuesday evening, police said.
The pair also will be charged in the attempted holdup of the Holiday Inn Express at 147 Merts Drive in Mount Joy Township on Monday, Northwest Regional police Officer Ken Henry said Thursday.
In that incident, a man handed the front desk clerk a handwritten note saying he had a gun and ordering the woman to empty the cash register, Northwest Regional police said.
She laughed and said there was no money at the hotel, and he left without taking anything or displaying a weapon.
Washington and Johnson also have been charged in these robberies in Lebanon and Dauphin counties: a Hess Express gas station in South Londonderry Township on Feb. 23; a Weis Market in Palmyra on Feb. 25; a Merle Norman store in Briarcrest Square in Derry Township on Feb. 28; a Vitamin World in Hershey on March 1; and a GNC store in Derry Township on Monday, Derry Township police said.
Washington and Johnson cooperated with police in relation to all seven robberies and blamed the heists on their addiction to drugs, police said.
No one was injured in any of the robberies, Derry Township police Lt. Tim Roche said.
Washington was charged with multiple counts of conspiracy, robbery and simple assault by physical menace and committed to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Johnson was charged with multiple counts of conspiracy and robbery and committed to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
There is a pending search warrant regarding their seized automobile, Derry Township police said.
