Another plan to consider
TO THE EDITORS:
In the Feb. 17 story, "Avalanche of pension debt rushes on,'' staff writer Karen Shuey discusses the governor's plans to "reform'' the retirement system for retired public school employees. She wrote: "Other than the proposal laid out by Gov. Tom Corbett, there are no other plans to consider.'' This is simply untrue.
Richard Rowland, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees executive director, presented in the 2012 edition of "After School Magazine'' (discussed further and more completely in the September 2012 issue of the PASR newsletter) his proposal, "Pension Reform 2.'' This is a prudently constructed proposal worthy of serious consideration.
On March 12, Rowland, along with Stuart Knade, interim executive director of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, will appear on the Pennsylvania Cable Network from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss this issue. This will be a live audience call-in program.
Those concerned about this issue should plan to watch and ask questions in live time.
