Donegal to keep early a.m. gifted class
BY DEAN LEE EVANS, Correspondent
Supporters of Donegal High School's gifted program were relieved to learn that district officials reached a compromise that ensures a future for the unique curriculum.
Jill Craig, director of special education and student services, which includes the gifted program, informed the school board Feb. 14 that a proposal to move the gifted class from its current time slot has been scrapped.
Now, the gifted class is held on Monday and Friday mornings during "period zero," a small block beginning at 7 a.m. -- 45 minutes before the start of regular classes.
Craig said that in an effort to preserve and enhance the program, administrators formulated a plan earlier this month to move the gifted program next year into its own period during the regular class day.
