Alex Vassila could only be contained for so long.
After scoring 14 points in the first half, the Johns Hopkins senior was held scoreless for the first 16:42 of the second half.
At that point, she took over and fueled the Blue Jays to a 54-49, come-from-behind win over Franklin & Marshall Wednesday night at Mayser Center.
Vassila, a 6-foot-1 center averaging 13 points per game coming in, finished with 23 points. She scored all nine of her second-half points consecutively during a late stretch when the Jays (13-7 Centennial Conference, 1-10 overall) erased a six-point deficit.
Vassila also finished with 15 rebounds and became the 14th player in Hopkins history to reach 1,000 points.
F&M (4-15, 7-17) led 47-41 with 4:59 to play, only to see Hopkins reel off nine unanswered points to regain the lead. The Jays closed the game with a 13-2 run.
Elizabeth Snyder led the Diplomats with 21 points.

Aurielle Mosley became just the eighth player in program history to surpass the 1,300-point barrier, leading Millersville (16-6, 13-5 PSAC) with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Lancaster Bible 62, PSU-Abington 34: Lauren Heliger scored a game-high 24 points as the host Chargers moved to 13-0 on their home court.
Heliger finished with six assists and 5 rebounds and increased her career points total to 1,408, a school record. Aubrey Folger added 14 and Sarah Heilenman added 10 for Lancaster Bible.
The Chargers visit Penn State Berks on Friday at 6 p.m.
