AARP program offers taxpayer assistance

With "Tax Day" just two months away, the AARP Tax-Aide Program is offering free taxpayer assistance at three Lancaster County locations.

The sites are:

n In downtown Lancaster, at First United Methodist Church, Duke and Walnut streets, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

n In Columbia, at the Columbia Senior Center, 510 Walnut St. Call 684-4850 for an appointment.

n In Quarryville, at the Quarryville Senior Center, 184 S. Lime St. Call 786-4770 for an appointment.

There are three other assistance sites in area retirement communities.

The AARP program provides taxpayer help to low- and moderate-income individuals, with special attention given to those age 60 and older. More than 3,000 county residents were served by the program last year.

Anyone needing help with rent rebates will be served after March 15, organizers said.
