Brazen slasher strikes 'dozens' of vehicles
BY P.J. REILLY, Staff Writer

Dozens of people in Lancaster city were greeted with an unwelcome surprise Wednesday morning.

Tires on dozens of vehicles were slashed overnight Tuesday, according to police.

Reports of the slashings were still coming in as of Wednesday afternoon, police Lt. Todd Umstead said, so police didn't have an accurate count of the number of vehicles damaged.

"I think it's certainly safe to say that it's in the dozens," he said.

The slashings occurred over a wide area; Umstead said reports were concentrated on the west side of the city.

Police had no suspects as of Wednesday afternoon.

Umstead said detectives were reviewing security camera video footage from various locations to see if any of the slashings had been captured.

Anyone with information is urged to call city police at 735-3300, or Lancaster City-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-1913. Tipsters also can click the "Submit a Tip" button on the city police website, www.lancasterpolice.com, or send a tip to Crime Stoppers by texting "LANCS" plus a message to 847411.

Tipsters may remain anonymous.
