Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era

Beware electric suppliers

TO THE EDITORS:

Your Jan. 25 article informed us that, beginning in August, PPL will, if we want, find cheaper electricity for us. It also mentioned that Palmco Power Co. had the lowest rate listed at 6.29 cents per KWH. I want to alert your readers to my experience with Palmco.

Last year I switched to Palmco. Their rate was 6.29 cents/KWH (same as today). After only two months, the rate went to 8.98 cents/KWH. The PPL price to compare was 7.99/KWH. I switched suppliers.

The next month I was still with Palmco (blame PPL because they would not switch us for two months after they are informed of the switch) at 8.98 cents/KWH. The next month still with Palmco (blame PPL again) they jumped my rate to 16.27 cents/KWH. The PPL compare rate was still at 7.99 cents/KWH. My bill was $95.76 higher than it would have been at 8.98 cents/KWH.

I called to complain and they sent me a refund of $42.97. I called again before writing this letter and they said they will send me another refund of $26 or $27.

I've had two other suppliers and they did not increase my rate on the last month. If anyone is switching to Palmco, my advice is to beware.
