Richard A. Hoober
Richard A. Hoober, 92, lifelong resident of Lancaster, died Thursday, February 7, 2013. Born in New Holland, PA, he was the son of the late John Myers Hoober and Anna Groff Hoober, and husband of Velma "Van" Nolt Hoober for 70 years.Dick served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from Mercersburg Academy and attended Brown University. He was vice president of J.M. Hoober Inc. and vice president of Lancaster Livestock Exchange. He was a member of First Reformed Church. He was a past member of the Lions Club, served on the Board of Lancaster Day Nursery, and was active in the Boy Scouts.In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by son, Thomas Richard Hoober, husband of Judith, of Lancaster; daughter, Marianne Forsyth, wife of John J., of Lancaster; daughter, Amy Elizabeth Ahrensdorf, wife of Robert J., of Tempe, AZ; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John M. Hoober, Jr.Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
