Civil union isn't marriage

TO THE EDITORS:

The marriage between a man and a woman is not exactly the same as a union between two people of the same sex. The reason should be obvious.

So, let us have a bipartisan compromise and call the relationship between two people of the same sex a union.

Let them have the benefits and responsibilities of two people committed to each other; but please do not call it a marriage.
