Casey joins Toomey on Finance committee FBI seizes police documents Judges admit role in ticket-fixing
HARRISBURG -- U.S. Sen. Bob Casey is joining his Pennsylvania colleague Pat Toomey on the Senate Finance Committee.
Casey said Tuesday that he has been appointed to the panel that oversees taxation, trade and certain health programs. Toomey, a Republican, was appointed in January.
Casey, a Democrat, says the assignment will give him a voice in shaping tax and trade policies, ensuring that Medicare works for current and future beneficiaries and ensuring that children have affordable health care.
PITTSBURGH -- The FBI has seized documents from the headquarters of the Pittsburgh police department.
Police spokeswoman Diane Richard says the FBI gathered documents on Tuesday but didn't provide details of what was taken.
Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper has been under scrutiny since a former friend of his was charged last year in connection with a bribery scheme on a contract to install radios and computers in police cars.
PHILADELPHIA -- A second judge has acknowledged fixing traffic tickets in Philadelphia for people with connections to the system.
Kenneth Miller pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday afternoon to mail fraud. Earlier in the day, H. Warren Hogeland pleaded guilty to mail fraud and conspiracy.
Miller and Hogeland were among nine traffic court judges charged last month with dismissing or reducing citations for friends, family, associates and political allies.
The other seven cases are pending.
