A Columbia man was arrested Monday for possessing and distributing more than 500 photos and videos depicting child pornography.

Joel Kuhn, 23, of the 500 block of Manor Street, was arraigned before Columbia District Judge Robert Herman on five counts of possession of child pornography.

He was released on $5,000 bail.

According to Columbia police Detective Matthew Leddy, Kuhn was identified by police during a larger investigation of child pornography conducted last summer by local members of the national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

"There are known child pornography files, and we can identify the computers where they are being disseminated from," Leddy said.

After zeroing in on Kuhn's computer, Leddy said, police in October executed a search warrant at his home.

A review of the contents of Kuhn's computer by the Lancaster County Computer Crimes Task Force revealed a large cache of photos and movies depicting child pornography.

Leddy said Kuhn admitted to police that he downloaded and viewed the pictures and movies.

Kuhn was not involved in the production of the pornography, Leddy said.

"He possessed them and offered them for trade or share," Leddy said.
