Life is much safer without guns
TO THE EDITORS:
Two stories in the paper on Jan. 24 illustrate the madness of our gun culture.
In the first, a man (law-abiding until then) shot his friend in the stomach. In the second, a man threatened a woman with an AR-15 rifle in a road rage incident. Luckily, no one died, but that is often not the case.
If you strip away the macho movie fantasies, the fear-mongering and the clever bumper-sticker slogans, here is what you get: You are safer in a country with strict gun control laws (not the U.S.), you are safer in a home without a gun, and you are safer without a gun -- whether you like it or not.
