A Paradise woman scared off an intruder in her home early Sunday morning.

According to state police, the 68-year-old woman was asleep in her home in the 300 block of Wolf Rock Road around 2:30 a.m., when she heard a noise.

The woman shouted and grabbed a "weapon for self defense," police said. They did not state what type of weapon the woman picked up.

After she yelled, the woman heard someone run out the front door of the house.

State troopers responding to the scene discovered that someone had climbed onto a second-story covered balcony.

The intruder then forced open a window to get into the house.

Police said it was unclear if anything had been taken from the home.
