Cause of F&M student's death remains unknown

An autopsy has failed to confirm the cause of death of a Franklin & Marshall College student who died Sunday.
Emergency medical personnel were unable to revive Eric H. Phillips, 20, after he collapsed at a residence hall around 2:15 a.m. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said an autopsy Monday revealed "some things" that may have contributed to Phillips' death.
He said he will await the results of toxicology tests, however, before ruling on the cause and manner of death.
Phillips collapsed in a common area of an undisclosed residence hall while hanging out with a group of friends.
The friends immediately contacted campus safety officers, who responded with medical personnel, according to a college official.
Phillips, a sophomore from Oakland, Calif., had not yet declared a major.
The college will hold a service of remembrance Wednesday, according to Cass Cliatt, F&M vice president of communications. The event will not be open to the public.
