Why permit guns in parks?

TO THE EDITORS:

The article, "East Lampeter OKs guns in parks,'' causes sadness, disappointment and concern. One can visualize an armed person with less than a Boy Scout-motive provoking an incident that could result in a tragedy similar to the Trayvon Martin/Zimmerman "stand your ground'' case in Florida.

Please, supervisors, give us one benefit this new ordinance will provide for persons who just wish to enjoy a time in the park.

With the East Lampeter police just minutes from the park on Hobson Road, carrying a cellphone in lieu of a gun would be a more "people friendly'' approach.
