Few deaths by gunfire here
TO THE EDITORS:
In the Jan. 25 edition of the Lancaster paper, District Attorney Craig Stedman is quoted as saying, "The sad thing is, I've lost count," when asked about the number of assaults and homicides.
I agree, it seems every day I pick up the paper, I read about another murder in the county or a trial for an earlier murder.
But what is missing from most of these stories? A gun!
In 2012, there were 15 murders in Lancaster County, and just four of them involved a gun. That's right, four. Four other murders were committed with bare hands. Other weapons included a belt, hammer, vehicles, crowbars and, in the most bizarre case, a "man" allegedly used his buttocks to suffocate his girlfriend when his vehicular homicide plan failed.
There's even a former local preacher on trial for killing his two wives, and there's no mention of a gun in either of those cases.
If these statistics can be used as a sample across the country, it seems to me that we have an anger, rage and murder problem in this country, not a gun problem.
If you listen to Joe Biden and Barack Obama, you'd think everyone who dies in this country dies of a gunshot wound.
I'll cut Obama a little slack because he lives in the murder capital of the country, and his "hometown" Chicago is running a close second to D.C. in the race for the most murders. (By the way, those two cities have the strictest gun control laws in the country… failure!) I'm sure reading about all those murders in the neighborhood takes a toll on a man after a while.
And Biden? He claims he heard shots from the Nickel Mines School shooting while playing golf in the area that day. Unless he was playing golf in an Amish man's field, there is no way he heard those shots while golfing.
It makes me wonder what other stories the vice president made up to suit his anti-gun agenda.
I think it's very reckless for these two men, who are very out of touch with reality and who are protected by armed guards at all times, to even consider infringing on my right to keep and bear arms.
And shame on Joe Biden for exploiting the victims of the school shooting for his agenda.
