PHILADELPHIA -- This time last year, the Phillies sounded an optimistic note about the cast of regulars they would carry into the start of spring training. Six of the eight position players who had finished the previous season in the everyday lineup were expected to be there for Opening Day 2012. All the reports on Chase Utley's knees suggested that the veteran second baseman had overcome the condition that sidelined him for the first two months of 2011.
