John J. Kuhn

John J. Kuhn, age 88, of St. Anne's Retirement Community, Columbia, died peacefully, Friday, February 8, 2013. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John M. and Marie Melchoir Kuhn. John was the husband of Elizabeth J. Kurtz Kuhn, his loving and devoted wife, with whom he would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on June 5th of this year. He retired in 1980, after 38 years of service as an engineering technician for the Department of Defense, at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, the Middletown Depot, and the Marietta Depot. John was a US Navy Veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Columbia, where he was a banquet supervisor. John was a life member of the VFW in Columbia, and the American Legion in Columbia and Wrightsville. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed teaching the art of fishing to children. John enjoyed traveling to Texas to visit friends and taking friends and family on pontoon rides on the Susquehanna River. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his brother: Robert Michael Kuhn of Lancaster, his sisters: Anna M. Diffenderfer of Columbia; Betty J. Haldeman of Columbia; Catherine L. Bleacher of Charlotte, NC; Helen M. Hubley of Hampstead, MD, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers: William A. Kuhn, James Kuhn, and Vincent Kuhn.A funeral service for John will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, from St. James Lutheran Church, 655 South 10th Street, Columbia, at 11 a.m. (Viewing 10-11 a.m.) with Reverend Mark Kopp officiating.
