David Preno manages a Punk Rock clothing store in Lancaster called Angry, Young and Poor.

But it could just as easily be called Angry, Young, Poor -- But Friendly.

Preno recently was victimized by a shoplifter, who bolted his store with several used vinyl records.

The records, 10 in all, ended up in the hands of Mike Madrigale, owner of a nearby rival business, Mr. Suit Records, who unwittingly purchased them from the thief.

Madrigale returned the records to Preno, but was out the $30 he had paid for them.

When Preno heard this, he encouraged his customers to patronize Mr. Suit Records by offering a discount on used records to anyone who brought receipts from his rival over a certain period of time.

"If you have a local business, be friendly with other local businesses, because you never know when it's going to help you out," Preno says.

For helping out his business rival in an unusual way, David Preno is this week's Lancaster New Era Red Rose Award recipient.
