Alcoa groups donate $192,000 to nonprofits

The Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Lancaster donated $192,000 to 50 Lancaster County nonprofit organizations last year, it was announced Tuesday.

Some of the largest gifts were $15,000 awards to:

United Way of Lancaster County, for Hurricane Sandy disaster relief; Spanish American Civic Association, for work force development; and Lancaster County Conservancy, for trees in Lancaster city.

Alcoa noted that its community support goes beyond dollars to include significant volunteer time. Local employees gave 3,200 hours to charities here last year.

Here are the other 2012 Alcoa grant recipients:

Adams Veterans Association, $250; American Cancer Society, $1,500; American Legion, $3,000; Arthritis Foundation, $2,500; Boy Scout Troop 64, $250; Brunnerville Fire Company, $250; CASA, $2,500; Columbia Presbyterian Church, $250; CompassMark, $3,000; Crispus Attucks Community Center, $15,600; Day of Caring trees, $3,856; Donors Choose Give Cards, $3,625; Ephrata Baseball Association, $250; Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company, $500; Franklin & Marshall College, $15,000.

Great American Park Clean Up, $1,500; Habitat for Humanity, $1,000; Hands-on House, $3,000; Humane League, $3,000; J.E. Bowen Jr. AMVETS Post 122, $250; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, $250; Lafayette Fire Company, $2,000; Lancaster Chapter, National Railway Historical Society, $250; Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board, $15,500; Lancaster Family YMCA, $3,500; Lancaster Foundation, $4,000; Manheim Soccer Club, $250; Manheim Township Ambulance, $500; Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, $2,500.

And Millersville University, $15,000; Mom's House, $3,450; Muscular Dystrophy, $250; North Museum, $250; Pearl Street United Methodist Church, $250; Pa. Economy League, $250; Penryn Fire Company, $250; Salvation Army, $1,500; Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center, $1,000; The American Chestnut Foundation, $8,000; Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, $15,000; Water Street Rescue Mission, $2,500; We're All God's Children, $250; YMCA Camp Shand, $3,000; YWCA, $6,537.
