MU students beaten, robbed

Five Millersville University students were victims of strong-armed robberies early Saturday, officials said.

The incidents occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. in an off-campus apartment complex in the area of Hillview Avenue.

None of the victims were seriously hurt, according to authorities.

In the first incident, a woman was grabbed by the hair and had a cell phone yanked from her hand after she turned around to answer someone who asked her for the time, according to Millersville Borough police.

In a second occurrence, a man was jumped from behind and had a cell phone and iPod taken from his pockets.

Another student came to the aid of the victim, only to be "clocked" by one of the assailants, according to police Chief John Rochat.

The initial victim suffered a chipped tooth, he said.

In a third incident, two men were punched in the face multiple times and kicked on the ground in a courtyard behind their apartment, police said.

A cell phone was stolen from one of the men.

Rochat said all the victims are 19 and 20 years old. Only the victim with the tooth injury required medical treatment.

He said the area where the assaults occurred is well-lighted.

Police described one of the suspects as a thin, black male wearing an orange hoodie. The other was described as a black male with chin-length dreadlocks and wearing a gray hoodie.

Rochat said other individuals, for whom descriptions were not available, took part in the assaults.

He said a group of about six to eight people participated in the crimes.
