First Thursday Latino celebration set tonight

Lancaster's First Thursday Latino will commemorate Black History Month and African-American heritage in a special celebration tonight.

The event will be held at The Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., beginning at 6 p.m.

First Thursday Latino is free of charge and open to the public.

A highlight will be the presentation of the Gavel of Social Justice Award, given to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service, commitment and leadership in advancing social justice in central Pennsylvania. This year's honorees are Lancaster City Council President Louise B. Williams and veteran Lancaster City Council member Nelson Polite Sr.

The recipients are selected based on their selfless behavior for the greater good, and for their service as trailblazers for social justice.
