TO THE EDITORS:

I read that Comcast is going to raise rates and, in addition, start charging for digital TV adapters.. Even though my TVs have digital tuners, Comcast requires that I utilize a DTA for each television set.

According to the newspaper article, these adapters are required so that Comcast can "free up broadband width, allowing room for more high-definition channels." This means that Comcast can send me more channels that I do not want and, additionally, raise my rate to pay for channels that I do not want!

I do not need nor want sports channels, but I have to take them and pay Comcast to send them to me. I am subsidizing sports fans. This is a double whammy, I pay for Comcast's ability to send more channels and then have to pay for those channels.

When are the regulators going to get on this and require that customers who do not want a service do not have to pay for it? Remove all sports channels from the lineup and make them an option that needs to be paid for only by those who want them at a rate that covers Comcast's costs. I am tired of subsidizing every armchair athlete!
