The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania has announced its 2013 Volunteers of the Year.

Elvin Ressler, of Ephrata, and Steve Kistler, of Elizabethtown, were selected by the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania's board of directors from among 150 active volunteers.

Ressler, a volunteer for 11 years, discusses with museum visitors the history of several locomotives, including the GP30, GP9 and H6. He gives orientation tours, assists the staff in greeting groups, and demonstrates the principles of steam power in the Stewart Junction railway education center. He also developed his own museum tour entitled "Iron Horses Making Tracks."

Kistler has been a volunteer for two years. With his knowledge of Morse code, he portrays a telegrapher in the telegraph office at the Steinman Station passenger depot. Kistler also assists the staff with educational tours.

Ressler and Kistler will be formally recognized as volunteers of the year by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission at a ceremony at the State Museum in Harrisburg on April 27 and during the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania's annual Members Day banquet in Lancaster on Sept. 28.
