Interim principal named for Akron Elementary

Ephrata Area school board members unanimously approved Sheri Horner as Akron Elementary School's interim principal on Jan. 21.

Horner, an elementary math and science coach, will replace Principal Enrica Gerhart, who retires on Feb. 20 after 19 years with the district.

The board, with reluctance, accepted Gerhart's resignation at its Nov. 19 meeting.

Kimberly Schlemmer, assistant superintendent for secondary education, said Horner was approved as an interim principal until the end of the 2012-13 school year.

Schlemmer said that if Horner chooses to continue to serve in the position, the board would have the option to approve her as Akron's permanent principal.
