Ruth E. Breneman
Ruth E. Breneman, 94, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Landis Homes, Manheim Township. She was married to John R. Breneman on April 1, 1945. Mr. Breneman died on June 23, 2009.Born July 12, 1918 in Pequea Twp., she was the daughter of the late Abram and Lizzie Hess and was a 1935 graduate of Penn Manor High School.Ruth was a longtime member of the New Danville Mennonite Church in Pequea Township and was a true "prayer warrior," praying for every member of her family on a daily basis.She enjoyed traveling with her husband, knotting quilts but above all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. During her 70?s and 80?s, Ruth worked at the Hess? family store, Pine View Dairy on New Danville Pike. From 1970 to the late 1990?s, she and her husband, John, also took pride in raising produce and making apple cider/sauce from their garden and orchard on Long Lane.
She enjoyed volunteering her time at Black Rock, Camp Andrews and Landis Homes among others. She will also be remembered for her cooking and the wonderful food she prepared for her family and guests. She will be lovingly missed by two foster sons, Steven J. O?Connell, husband of Joan, of Urbana, Illinois and Randy P. O?Connell of New Providence; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rhoda Nolt (Melvin) and a brother, David Hess (Mabel).Funeral Services will be held at Landis Homes WEST Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543 on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11 AM (Viewing 10-11 AM) with her brother in law, Pastor Robert A. Breneman and Pastor Lowell Gerber officiating. Interment will follow in the New Danville Mennonite Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial Remembrances can be made in Ruth?s memory to the Landis Homes Caring Fund.
