Elsie Hovey, 89, of Stevens, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at the home of her niece Norlene Steinmetz. She was born in Clay to the late Clayton and Annie B. Horst. Elsie was the wife of Rev. Ira Hovey who preceded her July 25, 1998. Elsie attended Ephrata High School. She worked at the Ephrata Shoe Factory during Word War II. She attended Kutztown State College (Kutztown University) during the late 1940's. She and her late husband were missionaries in the Philippines and other countries in South East Asia.Elsie is survived by a son, Robert H. Hovey and his wife Loretta of Rock Hill, CT, a granddaughter, Elsie C., wife of Tim Smith of Chicago, IL, a grandson Daniel Hovey of CT, three step-children, Rachel, Jordon, and David. A brother Jacob Horst of Fivepointville; eight nephews and nieces.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Titus and Reuben Horst and three sisters, Miriam Hahn, Eva Ulrich and Mary Anna Sweigart.A viewing was held Saturday, January 12 at Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut Street, Denver, followed by a service with Pastor Raymond Stark officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
