Albert Lewis Spiese, Jr.
Albert Lewis Spiese, Jr., 87, formerly of Landisville, died Friday, February 1, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson?s Disease. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Albert Sr. and Hilda Spiese and the husband of the late Jean Longenecker Spiese. Known to his family and friends as "Bert," he graduated from Columbia High School and retired from Conrail where he worked as a freight conductor. He was an avid hunter, card player and racquetball player. He also served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Spadefish during WWII. Surviving are six children, Denny and his wife Joyce, Maytown; Susan Cover, Columbia; Curtis, Columbia; Cynthia wife of Jeffrey Weber, Singapore; Charles of Landisville and Nancy Brown, DE; three grandchildren,
Shondelle Keck, Willow Street; Dr. Sarah Koller, Philadelphia and Alecia Koller, DE; three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. His siblings Rose Spiese, Millersville; Geraldine Spiese, Millersville; James, Herbert and Jack all of Columbia; Richard, CA and Patrick and his wife Kaye, Carlisle, also survive. A son, Steven Spiese and siblings, Gwen Spiese, Sis Pinkerton, Grace Holland, Nathan (Alf) and Kenneth (Nick) preceded him in death.Special thanks and love go out to the Heck family, Terry, Jackie, Allison, Corey, Kyle, Caleb and Anna, who were an integral part of his life. Also, much love and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Pleasant View Retirement Community, who became his other family in his final years.A memorial service will be held from the Church of God of Landisville, 171 Church St., Landisville, PA on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 2:00PM with the Rev. Barry Sellers, officiating. Interment to follow in the Landisville Mennonite Cemetery, followed by a light meal in the church fellowship hall where the family will greet guests at that time.
