Clair W. Eshleman, 79, of Ronks, passed away quietly at LGH on Monday, February 4, 2013 surrounded by his family.Born December 23, 1933, he was the son of the late Emlen Franklin and Clara Belle (Barr) Eshleman. His ancestors included some of the earliest settlers in Lancaster County. He was a descendant of Hans Herr and grew up working on a family farm which was part of the original land grant to an Eshleman, signed by the sons of William Penn. He attended Walnut Run, a one-room school, and the former West Lampeter High School.Clair is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Ann (Reinhart) Eshleman, three daughters, Carol Eshleman of Strasburg, Joan Eshleman and Linda (Ken) Leakway, both of Lancaster, a beloved grandson Michael Eshleman, and extended family.Clair was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Clair, Jr., a sister, Gladys Eshleman (Melvin E.) Rineer, and a nephew, James Rineer. Clair also had a brother who died in infancy.He was employed by Armstrong. Later, he worked at Reuben Beiler?s Sawmill, Precision Time, Thrift Companies, and retired from Erb?s Grocery Store in East Petersburg.Clair enjoyed sharing his mountain cabin with friends, hunting, and attending sporting events. He enjoyed talking with his breakfast buddies and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.As a young man, he helped to build the Garden Spot Bowling Center where he enjoyed bowling on various leagues, and also went on his first date with his future wife, Shirley. Clair was a charter member of Grace Brethren Church at Willow Valley where he was active with Missions and the Freedom Village. He faithfully served as a trustee, deacon, an elder, and a secretary for the Seniors Sunday School Class. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Grace Brethren Church at Willow Valley, 300 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA with Pastors John Smith and Al Reilly officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment in Strasburg Cemetery will follow the service. Please omit flowers.
