Special events

PROGRAM: Ronni Sakamoto will speak at a program of the Circle Legacy Center Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Community Mennonite Church, 328 W. Orange St.

Sakamoto will present a program on Hawaiian culture. Attendees also will learn a hula dance. Donations are requested. Snacks and beverages will be for sale.

MEETINGS:

·Friends of Lancaster County will meet Tuesday at noon at the Columbia VFW, 401 Manor St.

The meeting will include a covered dish meal, games and cards. The organization is for anyone 55 and over. New members are welcome.

·The Millersville Area Historical Society will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the North Museum of Natural History & Science, 400 College Ave.

The free program will feature a slideshow, "Before Written Records in Lancaster County: The Shenks Ferry and Susquehannock Indians."

Speaker will be W. Fred Kinsey, former professor and chairman of the Anthropology Department at Franklin & Marshall College and director of the North Museum. His presentation will focus on how archaeological excavations in Washington Boro and at Long Level have revealed important information about the Shenks Ferry and Susquehannock prehistoric American Indian cultures.

ORIENTATION: Triangle Therapeutic Riding will hold its annual volunteer orientation on Monday and Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at its new facility, 30 Martin Road, Reinholds.

Clubs

SIERRA: The Lancaster Group of the Sierra Club has planned a family hike at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Manheim Township's Landis Woods Park, just off Lititz Pike at Neffsville. The 1½-mile hike will be on well-maintained trails through beautiful woods and along a small creek.

Hikers should meet leader Jen Ericson at the outdoor theater in front of the Boettcher House, where they will sign a waiver of liability.

Hikers are encouraged to pre-register by calling 290-7180, extension 3100.
