U.S. should end the evil of abortion
TO THE EDITORS:
I appreciated Charlie Faltermayer's Jan. 25 letter lamenting the killing of our babies by abortion for 40 years. The March for Life speaks for millions of Americans who still believe that human life is sacred, and that we the people are fashioned in the image of our Creator.
Recently there was also the story of yet another young child, a 4-month-old baby boy, who was brutally beaten and killed by his father.
This is horrifying. In a society that, on the one hand legally can threaten and take the life of an infant in the womb, we turn about-face and say that child abuse is wrong and illegal. Legalized abortion gives the message that human life is cheap, and so we see that idea continuing in the rise of battered and abused children.
I was struck by the absurd phrase,"abortion in this country is safe, legal and rare," which was used recently in a letter to the editor. When 55 million babies have now been aborted, how can this be rare? How can abortion be safe, ever? It always ends with the death of at least one person -- the baby. It is never safe for the baby. The killing of our most precious and vulnerable members of society can become illegal once again when enough people demand an end to this evil in our land.
Please pray for our nation, that godliness and kindness will fill our hearts and homes. "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people." Proverbs 14:34
