Are guns more important than people?

To The Editors:

I'm so proud to be a countian today. Our stalwart Republican representatives continue in the glorious path of national Republicans over the past four years.

That is, they spend their time and our money in blocking everything our president or any Democrat proposes, even before they do, while crafting admittedly symbolic and worthless legislation which only serves to reaffirm their out-of-touch ideology and make them and their extremist base feel puffed up.

Guns are on the verge of overtaking automobiles as the biggest killer in this country. More guns equals more gun deaths -- this is the indisputable fact. Any legislator standing in the way of sensible gun reform is a tool of the gun company lobby and has blood on his hands. Don't hand me any garbage about a slippery slope or constitutional rights; the Second Amendment talks about a "well-regulated militia" -- the time for such regulation has long passed.

When our legislators declare guns are more important than people and the "right" to firepower trumps the promise of our Founding Fathers to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, then our county and our country are in deep trouble.

I'm so proud to be a countian today.
